Transit Driver who Miscarried Wins Bias Case: Was Denied Light Duty - To Get $450,000
In announcing the decision yesterday the State Human Rights Commissioner called the case “the most shocking instance of abuse of an employee by an employer” in at least 20 years. Mr. White said the Transit Authority’s disability policy violated state human rights law by treating pregnant women differently from workers with other temporary disabilities.

Trash Gay-Bashers, They Say
As police continued seeking suspects in Sunday’s anti-gay gang attack on two men in Carl Schurz Park a group of state and city human rights officials gathered yesterday to demand tougher punishment for such attacks. “Obviously, this kind of violence can’t take place in this society,” said Human Rights Commissioner Douglas White. “We abhor it.”

Rights Unit Investigates Search at a Social Club
The State Division of Human Rights is investigating a complaint by an Italian American group in Greenwich Village that a task force on organized crime, in the search for a murder suspect, raided the club with a sledgehammer last week and intimidated an elderly member at gunpoint.
There were charges by Italian American groups that indiscriminate raids were unfair harassment of Italian American. At news conference at the club, Commissioner Douglas White said “ What happen here proves that you don’t have to be Black or brown to be victimized by discrimination of violence or vandalism”. “The wanton destruction you see here is a result of ethnic stereotyping”.

Court Upholds $350G Award in Bank Bias Case
An Order by New York Human Rights Commissioner Douglas H. White directing National Westminister Bank, USA to pay a former bank officer over $350, 000 in compensation for discriminating against her because of her sex and race, has been upheld.
